Introduction
The topics of occults, witchcraft, and demon possession have so many versions from well-known bible scholars that it is difficult to form a solid opinion, so I can only offer my experiences and conclusions from my studies and what I read in the Bible. The first argument is, can born again Christians have demons? Second argument is do all occults stem from witchcraft and third argument is where did these spirits come from? For this writing, I call evil spirits, devils, and demons interchangeable. I do not believe however, Christians walking with Christ can be possessed by a demonic spirit taking total control over his/her body.
So, my humble weak opinion is I do believe that born again believers can have evil spirits occupy their bodies and can be demonized! I believe also occults are witchcraft driven and evil spirits enter the body of those who played around with them.
There is a difference between demonization and possession. The difference is that when a demonic spirit takes over the body, the person loses all control over his faculties, and we call this possession. When a person is demonized however, they maintain control of their body, but they are being influenced by an evil spirit.
Where do these demons come from, fallen angels, or were they created from when Adam and Eve fell, and sin entered their bodies, or some pre-existing race. I don’t know!
My first experience with Mormonism!
The strongholds I have found when dealing with Mormons as an example were strong in their teachings and belief that their way or church was the true church, they would never believe anything else, even bible quotes! Here is my experience…while living in Florida I had two nice young Mormon missionaries visit my home and being nice I let them in to hear their story. As they were telling me about Joseph Smith, their prophet and the book of Mormon being written for modern times and the bible written for ancient times and then how they have modern day prophets and Jesus visited America, it sounded farfetched and I couldn’t buy it. It did sound interesting however!
At that point in my life around 33 years of age, I never read the bible, so I had nothing to compare their stories with. I grew up Catholic and went to church and mass as a child and even lived in a parochial boarding school called Saint Catherine’s Academy. This upbringing and teachings were enough to question what the Mormons were saying. I remember while in Catholic school the teachings of Jesus, stations of the cross showing his crucifixion and that stayed in my heart, and maybe that is why I questioned them.
Well, they left me a magazine, and that night I took it to bed to read it. Back then my life was dope and sex, and we lit up a joint and started smoking it, pulled out the magazine and turned on a small reading light. This is what we read…This gospel of the kingdom would be preached in all the world to every nation and the end would come. Matt 24:14. The room lit up like a bright light, my wife and I were immediately sobered, and scared out of our minds, there was a strange presence in our bedroom. I ran to the toilet and started flushing our dope and cigarettes down the toilet.
The next morning when we woke up the whole world felt clean; actually, we were the ones that were cleaned, but had no idea what had happened! When my wife went to the grocery store a book grew large in front of her and the name was, “Jesus Stopped By”. Can you believe that God saved us reading a scripture from a Mormon magazine?
From that point forward I stayed away from any cult or occult or religion. When God called me to England to fight evil I was confronted with witches and evil spirits and He taught me to combat them by reading scripture and casting them out! He showed me by praying and fasting I had power over them when I called on the name of Jesus! I was amazed how they would not respond and you had to stay with them until they came out. I was constantly attacked physically at night to keep me from preaching in town centers throughout the north of England. I saw spirits as black puffs like smoke around people and even in their homes.
I remember praying for a Jewish man to receive Christ, and seeing this black-like smoke over his head and the man telling me how hard he was trying to believe Christ was the Son of God! He started crying and still would not accept Christ. God showed me that only by his spirit could I bind that spirit and cast the spirit out, so the man could accept Christ.
I learned very early that no matter how much scripture I would quote to people who were in cults that they would not be moved and in fact would quote scripture back to me. It took the power of the Holy Spirit to free them, no words or arguments would prevail, at least not for me, it took the power of the Holy Ghost!! This anointing is very heavy and faith very strong, unless you are called of God, stay away from it.
The strangest thing of all was how these spirits would enter a person. My ex-wife’s father was a spiritualist and prayed in front of the fireplace almost every night, then as he prayed (not to God) he would turn into an Indian, an American Indian speaking in their native language, Joan, my wife then, told me that she used to see dishes and cups fly around the house!
I believe these demons came from her and her family. They would come and choke me almost nightly; I yelled out as loud as I could over and over the name of Jesus. Sometimes they squeezed my neck so hard I couldn’t speak and struggled to speak, trying to cry out the name of Jesus!
Later, I was prophesied over telling me God was sending me to a school in Dallas called Christ for the Nations. The school taught the Holy Spirit, Ministry and Gifts. While in my dorm room with two other students we were all attacked and choked, they had followed me to Dallas.
All occults, cults, witchcraft, and Satan worshipers have these spirits that can enter bodies, and yes born-again believers get them as well if they hang around them or attend their sayings or even walk through their temples or places of worship!
Conclusion
My experience and belief is only through the power of the Holy Spirit can you reach and deliver those who are bound in cults and witchcraft, that no manner how much reasoning or discussion it will not prevail, the demons have them in chains!
I learned the power of the Holy Spirit early in my ministry to fight against these demons. Christ gave us power through his Holy Spirit to overcome sin, evil forces, and the devil. My recommendation is to read the book They Shall Expel Demons, by Derek Prince and learn the ministry of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is nothing to play with, it is dangerous!
Jesus’ first experience preaching to the Scribes and Pharisees was to deliver the possessed man with a demon in the temple of Capernaum – it was not pretty! Think about this that person was a Scribe or Pharisee, who else hangs around a temple of God. All these false religions that do not recognize Christ as God, are all driven by demons!
Jesus warned us in the last days there would be false Christ and false prophets. My advice is to grow in the power of His Holy Spirit, by stirring up the gifts that come with his baptism and using them. And if a person prays over someone he/she thinks is demon-possessed, then they better have an experienced minister with them, they can and will harm you or anyone casting them out! You should pray asking the Lord to speak through you, and do not say a thing until you are under the anointing of God, and then trust His power, the power of the Holy Spirit to speak direct to the demon, NOT YOU!!
Finally, Brethren be strong in the Lord and the POWER of His might! Eph 6:10. Matt: 3:10 “John came to baptize with water for the dependence of sin, but Christ came to baptize with the Holy Ghost and Power!” Mark 16:17-20 “God gave us the power over devils, demons, and evil spirits, and to preach his gospel.”
